Digital operations and asset management

Job cards, permits, method statements, maintenance history and stores — planned, carried out and held in one system built in-house.

Illustration of the VA-Energy operator view. Values shown are representative.

Every maintenance task VA-Energy carries out is raised, carried out and closed on a digital job card. The card holds the asset, the task, the service interval it answers to, the parts drawn and the hours spent, and it is signed off by the supervisor on shift. Nothing is written on a clipboard and typed up afterwards.

Where a task needs energy isolation, the permit to work and the isolation permit are generated from the job card itself, so the control is issued with the work rather than raised after it. The same document sets out how the task is to be carried out step by step — a method statement issued to the technician with the job. Isolations are carried out under LOTOTO: lock out, tag out, try out.

Materials are managed in the same system. Stores holdings, consumption against each engine and reorder levels sit alongside the maintenance plan, so spares are procured against service intervals rather than after a failure, and a part drawn on a job card comes off the stores record as it is fitted.

The system is bespoke throughout, from the job sheet to the reporting hub, and is built and maintained by VA-Energy's own IT team. It is written against how our plants are actually run, and it goes to site as part of an operation and maintenance or plant management contract.

What it covers

  • Digital job cards raised, carried out and signed off on site
  • Planned maintenance scheduled against manufacturer service intervals
  • Permit to work and isolation permit generated from the job card
  • Method statements issued with the task
  • LOTOTO isolation control — lock out, tag out, try out
  • Maintenance history held engine by engine and asset by asset
  • Stores holdings, consumption and reorder levels
  • Spares planning driven by the maintenance plan
  • Statutory certification and document revision control
  • Client reporting drawn from the same records

Why VA-Energy

The record is made at the time, by the person doing the work. When a client asks what was done to an engine and when, the answer comes from the job card, not from a reconstruction.
